TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – KONI Pusat believes that the development of cricket in Indonesia is increasing under the leadership of Azis Syamsuddin. The Golkar Party politician was re-elected to lead the Indonesian Cricket Association (PP PCI) Central Executive for the 2019-2023 period.
“I have no doubt about the ability of Pak Azis Syamsuddin to lead PP PCI. Under his leadership, cricket has developed and achieved quite good achievements,” said the Chairman of the Central KONI, Tono Suratman during the inauguration of PP PCI management at the KONI Pusat Jakarra Building, Monday, April 29, 2019.
What Tono Suratman said is true. The new cricket sport that was established in 2015 was able to donate silver and bronze medals for the Indonesian Contingent at the 2017 Malaysian SEA Games. In fact, the Indonesian Cricket National Team was able to compete in the international arena by becoming runner up in the 2018 ASEAN Womens T20 Open Tournament.
In the inauguration event, Tono also confirmed that cricket was included in the list of 51 sports that were competed in the 2020 National Sports Week (PON).
“Yes, cricket has indeed been officially competed in PON Papua 2020 and an international standard field has been built,” said Azis Syamsuddin.
In particular, Tono also asked PP PCI to make cricket to build peace, as did the Central KONI which tried to unite North and South Korea through the volleyball championship in Jakarta, July 21-25, 2019.
“If the Central KONI can hold a volleyball championship with participants from Indonesia, North Korea, South Korea and Vietnam. PP PCI can hold a championship by inviting Pakistan and India to strengthen relations between the two countries,” he said.
