TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Indonesian Women’s Cricket National Team (Timnas) performed stunningly on its debut in the 2020 Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualification round.
Playing in Vanuatu, Monday, May 6, 2019, Andy Cottam’s team appeared beyond expectations by beating Japan with a landslide score.
Indonesia who bowled earlier succeeded in pressing on the Japanese Batsman 101/6 in 20 overs.
The neat duet of bowling faster bowlers, Nety Sitompul and spinners, Taskia Hanum was enough to make the Japanese players frenetic.
The brilliant performance of the trio of Indonesian batsman, Yulia Anggraeni, Winda Prastini, and Nanda Sakarini further strengthened Indonesia’s position. They managed to silence Japan at over 17 (Format T20) with a score of 102/3 (17 over) – 101/6 (20 over).
“Today’s match is very special because the debut of the World Cup Qualifiers started brilliantly. Today, we have two matches and started with good results which happened to be on the first day of the Holy month of Ramadan, “said KRT. Abhiram Singh Yadav, Deputy Chairman of PP PCI.
In the second match, Puji Haryanti and friends narrowly lost in a dramatic match against Papua New Guine with a score of 69/7 – 70/7. In this match, Nanda Sakarini again performed brilliantly by recording 30 runs.
“Hopefully the team will remain focused on the next three days and we ask for the support and prayers of the Indonesian people,” said Aziz Syamsuddin, General Chair of PP PCI.
The qualifying round for the Cricket World Cup 2020 was attended by the hosts Vanuatu, Indonesia, Japan, Papua New Guinea (PNG), Samoa and Fiji in the East Asia Pacific group. This group will compete for 1 ticket to the next qualifying round.
